Duties

  • Client Consultation:

    • Meet with clients to evaluate their immigration needs and provide guidance on visa options, family petitions, work permits, asylum, and deportation defense.
    • Offer legal advice on citizenship applications and other immigration-related matters.
  • Prepare and File Legal Documents:

    • Draft petitions, applications, and supporting documentation for submission to immigration authorities, including USCIS, ICE, and EOIR.
    • Create legal briefs, motions, and documents required for immigration court hearings.
  • Court Representation:

    • Represent clients in immigration courts, including in deportation and appeal proceedings.
    • Argue cases before immigration judges and appellate courts as needed.
  • Liaison with Government Agencies:

    • Act as a representative for clients by communicating with USCIS, ICE, and the Department of State.
    • Attend immigration interviews, hearings, and related proceedings on behalf of clients.
  • Legal Research and Analysis:

    • Keep abreast of immigration law changes and analyze complex legal situations to develop strategies that best serve clients.
  • Family and Employment-Based Immigration:

    • Assist clients with family-based immigration petitions (e.g., spousal, and parental visas).
    • Provide support to employers and employees with employment-based immigration processes, such as H-1B visas and labor certifications.
  • Citizenship and Naturalization:

    • Guide clients through the naturalization process to ensure they meet the requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Asylum and Refugee Cases:

    • Represent individuals seeking asylum or refugee status, preparing evidence and documentation to substantiate claims.
  • Deportation and Removal Defense:

    • Offer legal defense for clients facing deportation or removal from the U.S.
    • File appeals and motions to reopen cases when necessary.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state is required; additional certifications in immigration law are a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in immigration law through internships, clerkships, or prior practice is essential.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. state; certification in immigration law is advantageous but not required.
