Duties:

  • Collaborate with clients to create customized estate plans that align with their personal goals and financial circumstances.
  • Draft essential documents including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
  • Advise clients on a range of estate planning strategies, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each in clear, understandable terms.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the estate planning process, ensuring client satisfaction and fostering long-term relationships.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote their professional development.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and elder law.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in handling sensitive or emotionally charged situations.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in estate planning.
  • Knowledge of New York State estate, gift, and income tax laws, as well as federal estate tax laws.
  • Experience with complex trust structures and drafting estate planning documents.
  • Familiarity with Surrogate’s Court procedures and probate administration.
  • Ability to oversee Medicaid eligibility strategies and asset protection planning.
  • Proficiency in legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, WealthCounsel, Lawmatics).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning is a plus but not required.

Certifications:

  • New York State Bar membership is required.
