A law firm seeks an International Trade Associate to join its Washington, D.C. office. This role focuses on supporting the firm’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in CFIUS matters and a strong understanding of national security, export controls, sanctions, and related issues. This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated international trade matters in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Advise clients on CFIUS-related matters, including regulatory filings, compliance, and risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with clients on issues related to export controls, economic sanctions, and national security concerns.
  • Guide investment funds and corporate transactions involving foreign investments.
  • Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver strategic solutions on complex trade issues.
  • Stay updated on legislative and regulatory developments impacting CFIUS and related areas.
  • Draft and review legal documents, filings, and memoranda with attention to precision and clarity.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience working on CFIUS matters, either in a government or private practice setting.
  • Familiarity with export controls, sanctions, national security issues, investment funds, and corporate transactions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop creative solutions for complex legal and regulatory challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Education

  • J.D. degree from a highly respected law school with exceptional academic achievements.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Washington, D.C. bar or eligibility to waive in.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CFIUS regulations and related international trade laws.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
