A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Patent Agent to join its team. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or biochemistry. This role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and supporting due diligence efforts. The ideal candidate will excel in managing multiple assignments under tight deadlines and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Support due diligence activities related to patent prosecution and intellectual property matters.
  • Analyze scientific and technical documents to prepare accurate and thorough patent filings.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to collect necessary information and address patent-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all USPTO regulations and procedural requirements.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines from various partners and clients.
  • Provide technical expertise and strategic support in patent strategy and portfolio management.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.
  • Patent Bar eligibility; state bar licensure is advantageous but not required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, leveraging technical expertise to assist in protecting technology.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and client-driven assignments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.
  • Patent Bar eligibility.
  • State Bar licensure (if applicable).
