Job Overview

A law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Energy and Environmental Group in Portland, Maine. This role offers the opportunity to work on a national scale, advising on complex energy transactions, project development, and project financing, including tax increment financing. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience and will work within a dynamic team that integrates commercial transactional elements with federal and state regulatory frameworks.

Duties

  • Advise on complex energy transactions and energy project development.
  • Assist in the financing of energy projects, including tax increment financing and tax projections.
  • Navigate and provide counsel on state and federal energy and environmental regulations.
  • Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents, memoranda, and opinions related to energy and environmental matters.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in energy and environmental law.
  • Experience with energy project development, financing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to synthesize legal, political, and practical considerations for client advising.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications and Skills

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Maine or the ability to become licensed within a reasonable time frame.
