Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patent Agent to join their team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will work with clients on innovative technologies to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios. This role involves drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, supporting due diligence, and managing various tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills, the ability to work under pressure, and an aptitude for interacting professionally with clients and colleagues.

Duties:

  • Work with clients on innovative and cutting-edge technologies to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients.
  • Provide support for due diligence, landscape analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, and validity assessment arising from collaboration with industry partners.
  • Draft responses to patent application rejections from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other worldwide patent offices.
  • Focus on patent filings and support patent litigation as needed.
  • Establish and maintain internal practices, procedures, and technology for coordinating and streamlining patent-related information, filings, and deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external clients, including lawyers, firm management, and staff.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects, demonstrating strong management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Work flexibly to accommodate projects, including evenings or weekends, if necessary.
  • Provide diplomatic responses, seek clarity, and use good judgment in decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Industry experience in Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration.
