A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Associate Attorney with a strong technical background in biological sciences. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors, ensuring comprehensive protection of client innovations.
  • Conduct thorough patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses for clients in the biotech industry.
  • Manage and advise clients on strategic patent portfolio development and intellectual property (IP) management, aligning with their business goals.
  • Perform due diligence investigations for acquisitions, mergers, and licensing agreements.
  • Respond to office actions and communicate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices during patent prosecution.
  • Work closely with partners, associates, and technical staff to develop complex legal strategies for clients' IP matters.
  • Provide legal opinions on patent infringement, validity, and enforceability issues.
  • Assist in patent litigation and appeals, including oppositions and re-examination proceedings.
  • Stay current with industry trends and developments in IP law, especially in biotechnology, and apply this knowledge to guide client strategies.
  • Engage directly with clients to deliver exceptional service, fostering long-term professional relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of relevant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, evaluating patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations, preferably in a law firm setting.

  • In-depth technical expertise in biological sciences with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear legal strategies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, capable of presenting complex ideas to both legal professionals and scientists.

  • Leadership skills, including the ability to mentor junior attorneys and lead IP strategy discussions with clients.
