Job Title: Tax Controversy Associate Attorney

Job Location: Washington, DC

Job Overview: A prominent law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking an Associate Attorney with 0-2 years of experience (class of 2025 – class of 2023) to join its dynamic Tax Controversy Team within the Business Tax practice group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of tax-related matters, providing exposure to industries and tax disputes at the federal level. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, a keen interest in tax law, and be eager to work with a collaborative team. Specialization or interest in renewable energy tax credits is a plus.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in IRS administrative dispute resolution and IRS examinations.
  • Engage in tax litigation, including IRS Appeals programs.
  • Research, draft, and analyze complex tax issues and case law.
  • Manage multiple tax-related matters concurrently, ensuring all deadlines and client needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to provide strategic guidance on tax controversy matters.
  • Contribute to the firm’s Tax & ERISA team in delivering exceptional client service and legal solutions.
  • Display initiative and demonstrate leadership within the team.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with senior attorneys on challenging tax matters.

Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of experience in tax law (class of 2025 - class of 2023).
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Prior experience or a demonstrated interest in federal tax controversy, including IRS examinations, IRS Appeals, and tax litigation.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Client-focused with a collaborative approach to legal practice.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • District of Columbia Bar membership preferred (must be obtained within one year of employment).
  • Prior experience at the IRS, Department of Justice’s Tax Division, or judicial clerkship is desirable.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • District of Columbia Bar membership is required within one year of employment (if not already licensed).
