A law firm seeks a highly motivated and skilled Patent Attorney to join its team in the Washington, D.C. metro area. This is an excellent opportunity to work with leading global technology companies on patent prosecution matters. The ideal candidate will be a proactive attorney with a background in electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, or related fields, ready to make significant contributions to a dynamic intellectual property practice. Duties:

  • Prosecute patent applications for major global technology clients in fields such as electronics, electrical engineering, and computer science.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide strategic counsel on intellectual property matters.
  • Engage in detailed case discussions and technical assessments to develop and refine patent strategies.
  • Stay current on developments and trends in patent law, particularly within the technology and electronics sectors.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and professionals to resolve complex patent issues.
  • Draft patent applications, office action responses, and other key legal documents.
  • Provide legal advice regarding patent rights and intellectual property strategies.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of patent prosecution experience at a U.S. law firm, particularly in electrical/electronics and mech-electrical technologies.
  • Proficiency in prosecuting patents in industries such as OLED flat panel displays, electric vehicle battery cells, AI-based systems, and home appliances.
  • At least two years of experience as a USPTO examiner is preferred but not required.
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and collaborate with colleagues and clients.
  • High attention to detail and thorough understanding of the patent process.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to foster strong client relationships.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, physics, or a closely related field.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution, particularly in electrical, mechanical, and electronic technologies.
  • Familiarity with recent patent law developments and trends in technology sectors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with the capacity to collaborate across practice areas.
