Job Overview

A law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to support the Firm's patent prosecution practice. This role will assist the Firm's clients protect their technology by drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and supporting due diligence activities. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant experience and a solid technical background in a related scientific field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
  • Manage and coordinate patent prosecution activities, including responding to office actions and communicating with patent examiners.
  • Conducted patent searches and provided technical analysis to support patentability assessments.
  • Assist with due diligence tasks, including analyzing patent portfolios and preparing reports.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and technical experts to develop patent strategies and address complex patent issues.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and technology trends relevant to the Firm's practice areas.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution and intellectual property law.
  • Must be registered to practice before the USPTO and be Patent Bar eligible.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet and manage internal and client-driven deadlines.
  • Experience in managing assignments from multiple partners and clients effectively.

Education

  • Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills
