Job Overview
A law firm is seeking a mid-level Associate in Environmental & Permitting to join the Energy & Infrastructure team in Washington, D.C. This role involves engaging in complex transactions related to renewables and infrastructure, focusing on environmental compliance and permitting.

Location

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties

  • Assess environmental risks of proposed transactions with team guidance.
  • Conduct legal research on federal and state laws; draft memos summarizing findings.
  • Coordinate with local environmental counsel on research and due diligence.
  • Review environmental reports and permits; draft due diligence inquiries.
  • Edit indemnity and warranties provisions in transaction agreements to address environmental risks.
  • Assist sponsors in identifying and obtaining necessary project permits.

Requirements

  • U.S. J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the D.C. Bar.
  • Knowledge of U.S. environmental laws, including CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
  • Experience with domestic renewables (solar, wind, energy storage) and transactional work is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to relevant state bars (D.C.).

Skills

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with ESG matters is an advantage.
