Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join its team in San Jose, California. Reporting to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney, the selected candidate will manage their caseload, represent clients in court, and contribute to the team’s success.

Duties

• Provide legal counsel to clients regarding their rights and develop case strategies.
• Draft legal documents, motions, and related filings.
• Represent clients during pretrial hearings and provide post-hearing updates on case strategy.
• Conduct legal research to assess the probable outcomes of cases using legal precedents.
• Manage court appearances, trial preparation, and witness interviews.
• Collect evidence to strengthen the client's case or counter the prosecution’s claims.
• Prepare clients for depositions and develop case strategies based on expert and witness input.
• Collaborate with attorneys and legal assistants to ensure comprehensive case management.

Requirements

• Strong interest in criminal defense law.
• Willingness to handle complex criminal cases across federal, state, and local levels.
• Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in good standing with the state Bar.
