A law firm seeks a skilled Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property practice group in Bethesda, MD, with remote work options available. The ideal candidate will bring experience in patent prosecution, search and analysis, application drafting, and portfolio management, across industries including mechanical, biomedical, and medical devices.

Duties:

  • Manage a diverse range of patent prosecution tasks, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Conduct thorough patent searches and analyses to evaluate patentability.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of responses to office actions.
  • Support clients with strategic patent portfolio management and advice.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and other team members to develop and implement effective intellectual property strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on mechanical, biomedical, and medical device-related patents.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Patent Agent, with a focus on patent prosecution.
  • Experience in mechanical, biomedical, or medical device patent law is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of patent laws and procedures.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing patent applications from filing to grant.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s, PhD) in relevant fields are a plus.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent drafting, filing, and prosecution processes.
  • Strong technical understanding in mechanical, biomedical, or medical device engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
