A law firm seeks an experienced Estate Planning and Probate Attorney to join its Grand Rapids office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with clients in developing tailored estate plans, guiding them through the probate process, and advising on tax-efficient strategies for asset distribution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estate planning, probate administration, and trust management, with the ability to provide thoughtful legal counsel to clients while minimizing tax liabilities.

Duties

  • Develop customized estate plans that align with the client's specific needs and financial goals.
  • Advise clients on tax implications of estate planning and implement strategies to minimize estate and gift taxes.
  • Oversee the probate process, including court proceedings, asset valuation, debt settlement, and distribution of assets.
  • Guide trustees on trust administration and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
  • Represent clients in estate-related legal proceedings and ensure timely resolution of probate matters.
  • Foster strong client relationships through clear communication and personalized service.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in estate planning, probate administration, and trust management.
  • Expertise in developing comprehensive estate plans, tax strategies, and probate processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of Michigan estate law, tax regulations, and the probate court system.
  • Proven ability to handle complex estate and trust matters with attention to detail.
  • Excellent client service skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain language.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan.

  • Expertise in estate planning, probate, and trust administration.
  • In-depth understanding of tax planning strategies, including estate and gift tax laws.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
