Job Title: Patent Agent - Medical Devices

Job Location: Minneapolis, MN

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Patent Agent to become an integral part of its intellectual property team. This position will focus on medical devices, with an emphasis on bioengineering. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, addressing office actions, and assisting with prior art searches. A strong background in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, and related fields is required, and proficiency in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science will be considered a valuable asset.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to medical devices, bioengineering, and other technical fields.
• Respond to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Assist in preparing legal opinions on patentability and patent infringement matters.
• Conduct prior art searches to support patent applications.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to refine patent strategies.
• Support the preparation and filing of patent-related documents.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
• Admission to practice before the USPTO.
• Proven experience with patent prosecution, office action responses, and prior art searches in the medical device and bioengineering fields.
• Strong technical background in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
• Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) is a plus.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Certifications:

• USPTO registration is required.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of patent law and procedures.
• Excellent communication and drafting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects efficiently.
• Technical expertise in medical devices, bioengineering, or related fields.
• Knowledge of AI and its application in intellectual property is a plus.
