A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney to enhance its patent prosecution practice. The successful candidate will bring a solid technical foundation and significant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications. This role requires a strong ability to manage multiple priorities, meticulous attention to detail, and the capability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct due diligence, including prior art searches and patentability assessments.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely patent filings.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple assignments from various partners and clients, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other communications from the USPTO.
  • Analyze patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance to clients.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and technological advancements relevant to the firm's practice.
  • Assist in preparing legal documents, reports, and strategies related to patent prosecution.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, leveraging technical expertise to assist clients in protecting their technology.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO and Patent Bar eligible.
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the respective state.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registration with the USPTO and Patent Bar eligibility required.
  • State law practice license preferred but not required.
