Job Title: Municipal Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Municipal Attorney to join its Public Law team in Little Falls, NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in municipal law and a proven track record of providing legal counsel to public entities and municipalities. This role involves preparing legal documents, advising clients on a variety of municipal matters, and participating in public meetings. The position reports directly to the Department Chair of Public Law and offers a dynamic work environment.

Duties:

  • Draft resolutions, ordinances, and attend public meetings
  • Assist in negotiating and preparing contracts
  • Advise municipalities and public entities on various legal matters
  • Conduct research and prepare memoranda on topics such as the Open Public Records Act, Open Public Meetings Act, Local Public Contracts Law, and Property Maintenance Code
  • Provide day-to-day oral and written legal counsel
  • Handle additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in the state of New Jersey
  • Admission to practice law in New York is a plus
  • 5 years of experience in a legal practice
  • Strong multitasking, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong proofreading skills
  • Proficient in legal research tools (Lexis, Westlaw) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • High level of professionalism and discretion with sensitive information

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar required
  • Admission to the New York Bar preferred
