Job Overview: A reputable law firm is seeking a Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its team. This position offers the opportunity to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience and a strong intellectual curiosity, with an interest in shaping and advancing civil rights case law.
Location:
Eugene, OR
Duties:
Screen potential civil rights cases by conducting in-depth legal research to assess their merits
Participate in civil rights litigation from start to finish, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions
Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances as required
Work with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals
Collaborate with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development
Requirements:
2-5 years of litigation experience, with preference for civil rights, constitutional law, and trial experience
Proven ability to manage complex legal matters from inception to resolution
Experience in handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals
Strong interest in civil rights advocacy and the intellectual curiosity to engage with case law development
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law
Skills:
Strong legal research and writing skills, with emphasis on complex motions and case law development
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to manage litigation processes efficiently
Proficiency in case management and legal documentation
