Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking a Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its team. This position offers the opportunity to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience and a strong intellectual curiosity, with an interest in shaping and advancing civil rights case law.

Location:

  • Eugene, OR

Duties:

  • Screen potential civil rights cases by conducting in-depth legal research to assess their merits

  • Participate in civil rights litigation from start to finish, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions

  • Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances as required

  • Work with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of litigation experience, with preference for civil rights, constitutional law, and trial experience

  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters from inception to resolution

  • Experience in handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals

  • Strong interest in civil rights advocacy and the intellectual curiosity to engage with case law development

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with emphasis on complex motions and case law development

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to manage litigation processes efficiently

  • Proficiency in case management and legal documentation
