Patent Attorney

A law firm in Charlotte is seeking a dedicated Patent Attorney with 1-4 years of experience in patent law. The ideal candidate must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and preferably have a background or work experience in software, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. Strong communication skills, exceptional writing abilities, and a diligent work ethic are essential for success in this role.

Job Duties:

• Conducting inventor interviews and effectively communicating with clients to understand their inventions and patent needs.
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various technologies, with a focus on software innovations.
• Analyzing and responding to patent office actions, including rejections under 35 U.S.C. 101.
• Providing strategic patent portfolio counseling and assisting clients in developing IP strategies.
• Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Bar and in good standing in at least one state.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO.
• 1-4 years of experience specifically in patent law, with a focus on drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Background or work experience related to software, artificial intelligence, or machine learning is preferred.
