Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A law firm in Washington, DC, seeks a skilled and dedicated Patent Agent to support its patent prosecution practice. The ideal candidate will assist the firm’s clients in protecting their technology by drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and supporting due diligence efforts. The role requires a solid technical background, excellent time management skills, and the ability to handle multiple assignments from various partners and clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
• Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other USPTO communications.
• Assist with due diligence in connection with patent transactions.
• Collaborate with clients to understand their technological innovations and protect their intellectual property.
• Work closely with attorneys and other professionals to strategize patent prosecution and enforcement.
• Manage and prioritize multiple assignments to meet internal and client-driven deadlines.

Requirements:

• 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Must possess a Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Registration to practice in front of the USPTO is required.
• Patent Bar eligibility is mandatory.
• Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Education:

• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
