Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly motivated Patent Agent to assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors on innovative products, identify patentable inventions, and navigate the patent application process. This position involves significant research, drafting, and client interaction to ensure that patent applications are completed accurately and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist patent attorneys with preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate closely with inventors to understand and protect newly developed products.
  • Assist in identifying patentable inventions through in-depth analysis and discussions.
  • Conduct thorough research on existing patented technologies to advise clients on patentable work.
  • Draft patent applications with the support of the patent team.
  • Monitor and track the patent application process from initial submission to granted patent.
  • Conduct regular patentability and ability-to-practice searches.
  • Address client concerns and provide timely responses to their inquiries.
  • Respond to office actions and communicate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as needed.
  • Consistently meet billable hour requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • 1 year of professional experience required; 2+ years of experience preferred.
  • Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology.
  • Prior experience working in the field of patent law.
  • USPTO Registration is required.

Preferred Education & Certifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
