A law firm seeks a dedicated Collections Attorney to support all aspects of its collection practice, focusing on legal processes specific to Minnesota. This role involves collaborating with firm management, clients, and consumers to provide effective legal counsel and achieve optimal collection outcomes.

Duties:

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of applicable statutes and case law, including FDCPA, state collection laws, and civil procedures.
  • Review and approve lawsuits, garnishments, and settlement agreements.
  • Draft and prepare legal motions and documents.
  • Represent clients at conciliation and district court hearings.
  • Oversee case management from initial file review through judgment and collection actions.
  • Manage responses to collection disputes, ensuring compliance with legal and client requirements.
  • Handle escalated calls from debtors and their representatives.
  • Monitor post-judgment collection efforts.
  • Provide updates to clients regarding case status and pending matters.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in collections law or related field.
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements affecting debt collection, including FDCPA, FCRA, GLBA, and state laws.
  • Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in Minnesota.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research and case management.
  • Strong critical thinking for effective strategy development.
  • Excellent communication skills for client interaction and court appearances.
