Job Overview

A well-established law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a background in life sciences to join its remote team. This role involves working with clients on patent prosecution, portfolio management, and due diligence. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in patent law, particularly within the fields of immunology, molecular biology, oncology, or similar areas, and be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent and trademark applications with the USPTO.
  • Prepare responses to Office Actions and liaise with Examiners.
  • Conduct patentability, clearance, and infringement searches.
  • Manage intellectual property (IP) portfolios and provide portfolio counseling.
  • Collaborate with clients on invention intake and assessment of patent rights.
  • Prepare memoranda, opinions, and related documentation.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients on patent rights and related matters.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to clients and internal teams.
  • Support senior attorneys and other team members with timely paperwork filings.
  • Stay updated on advancements in relevant scientific fields and patent law.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution and drafting.
  • Demonstrated experience in life sciences, specifically in areas such as immunology, molecular biology, oncology, or gene therapy.
  • Proficiency in patent preparation, drafting, and prosecution.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface professionally with clients.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, virology, microbiology, oncology, gene editing, gene therapy, or related field.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
