A law firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Regulations, Investigations, Securities, and Compliance Lawyer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs, and other international trade regulations. This role requires expertise in counseling clients, conducting investigations, handling regulatory filings, and developing compliance programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs (including tariffs), and other international trade regulations.
  • Conduct compliance audits and internal investigations related to regulatory matters.
  • Draft and review licensing applications, regulatory filings, and compliance-related documentation.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and training programs for clients.
  • Respond to government enforcement actions and represent clients in regulatory proceedings.
  • Conduct due diligence and advise on matters related to national security (e.g., CFIUS reviews).
  • Handle investigations related to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other regulatory compliance issues.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and professionals within the firm on cross-functional matters.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier law school in the United States.
  • Active membership in the District of Columbia Bar.
  • 5+ years of experience practicing law with a focus on regulations, investigations, securities, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs, and international trade regulations.
  • Experience with regulatory counseling, compliance audits, and internal investigations.
  • Familiarity with FCPA investigations and national security matters preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior experience at a large law firm is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Active membership in the District of Columbia Bar.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage complex legal matters and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting legal documents.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in legal analysis and documentation.
