Duties:

  • Oversee discovery processes, including interrogatories and document requests.
  • Perform comprehensive legal research and remain updated on legal developments in workers' compensation law.
  • Draft and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Represent clients in hearings, trials, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with claims representatives to develop legal strategies.
  • Monitor trends in workers' compensation claims and provide insights to reduce liability.
  • Assist with accident investigations and other employer risk management activities.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of employers and insurers.
  • Prepare and submit management reports and attend claims reviews.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois; additional Midwest state licenses are a plus.
  • Experience in workers' compensation defense work.
  • Strong understanding of legal principles, practices, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting legal documents.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local workers' compensation laws and regulations.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Illinois Bar admission; additional Bar admissions in other Midwest states preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficient in legal research and writing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
