A law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney for its Newport News, VA office with the following qualifications:

Job Overview:

The Associate Attorney will provide expert legal analysis, handle high caseloads, and represent clients in various legal proceedings. They will collaborate closely with the Managing Attorney to ensure effective communication and reporting of all activities and results.

Duties:

  • Treats all clients fairly and respectfully, devising fair payment solutions tailored to their financial circumstances.
  • Demonstrates exceptional legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Handles a high volume of caseloads and offers expert analysis and advice on legal and regulatory risks.
  • Negotiates with opposing counsel to achieve final case resolutions.
  • Willingness to travel to various courts within Virginia for legal representation and court hearings.
  • Works closely with the Managing Attorney to report all activities and outcomes.

Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of experience in bankruptcy/collection or civil law litigation, including court proceedings and associated regulations.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with an active license to practice law in Virginia.
  • Additional licenses to practice law in other states within the firm's footprint (NC, SC, TN, FL, GA, MD, MI, OH) are a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal Debt Collection Law and State civil litigation laws.
  • Ability to analyze case law and provide informed recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding time management skills.

Education/Certifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
