A law firm seeks a detail-oriented and driven attorney to join its Richmond, VA team, specializing in real estate default law, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and related litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience or a strong interest in real estate law, mortgage servicing, and title issues. This role provides significant opportunities for growth, including work in bankruptcy, litigation, and transactional mortgage default cases.

Duties

  • Analyze legal matters and develop strategies in collaboration with the Managing Attorney
  • Manage caseloads effectively, ensuring compliance with firm, client, and court requirements
  • Coordinate with staff to maintain timely updates in client systems and the firm’s case management software
  • Prepare and review legal documents for compliance with applicable laws and client directives
  • Conduct legal research on statutes, case law, and relevant codes
  • Draft and file foreclosure-related motions, complaints, and responsive pleadings
  • Handle real estate title litigation and substantive real estate matters
  • Prepare bankruptcy motions and filings, and perform quality control reviews on legal documents
  • Attend pre-trial hearings, argue motions, participate in mediations, and attend trials in state and federal courts, as applicable to experience

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills with effective oral and written communication abilities
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of work in a fast-paced environment with accountability
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Virginia
  • Background in real estate, mortgage servicing, or general litigation is preferred; recently admitted attorneys with relevant experience are encouraged to apply

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Virginia State Bar (required)

Skills

  • Proficiency in legal research and document preparation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Familiarity with case management software and legal databases (e.g., Westlaw) is a plus
