Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications for clients in various industries, focusing on software, artificial intelligence, IoT, and quantum technologies.
  • Conduct detailed patentability searches and provide counsel on patent strategy, portfolio development, and intellectual property protection.
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to understand complex inventions and convert them into strong patent applications.
  • Draft technical documents and legal correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and clarity.
  • Work directly with clients to ensure clear communication regarding patent-related matters, strategies, and timelines.
  • Monitor patent processes, including office actions, and respond effectively to ensure the timely progression of applications.
  • Provide guidance on IP portfolio management and patent filing strategies tailored to client needs.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, particularly in software, AI, IoT, and quantum technologies, to better assist clients.
  • Support litigation and infringement analysis when necessary.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
  • Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience, preferably within a law firm setting.
  • Experience working with software-related technologies and familiarity with artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. patent laws, USPTO guidelines, and patent prosecution processes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in clear legal terms.
  • Proficiency in drafting patent claims and technical documents with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess the commercial viability and patentability of inventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients, engineers, and legal teams effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and capable of working both independently and within a team.
