Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in complex estate planning and tax law, is seeking a highly skilled Trusts and Estates Tax Attorney with extensive experience in handling intricate estate/gift tax, personal wealth, and tax planning matters for high-net-worth clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of estate planning, fiduciary advisory, and related legal areas. Duties:

  • Develop and implement customized estate plans for high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners.
  • Advise fiduciaries in matters of probate and trust administration.
  • Handle contested estate and trust issues, providing expert counsel and representation.
  • Review and prepare complex estate and gift tax returns, including addressing intricate reporting and valuation matters.
  • Assist clients in establishing private foundations and other charitable structures.
  • Draft and review essential estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and premarital agreements.
  • Guide complex business transactions, including family limited partnerships, shareholder agreements, installment sales, and other tax-driven business arrangements.
  • Prepare and work with advanced estate planning tools such as IDGTS, SLATS, CRTS, CLTS, GRATS, QPRTS, FLPS, and SCINS.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estate planning, tax law, and fiduciary advisory services.
  • In-depth knowledge of estate/gift tax laws and complex wealth management strategies.
  • Ability to advise on both personal and business tax planning matters.
  • Strong client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex matters and collaborate with other legal professionals.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation is required.

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to the South Carolina Bar or willing to apply for admission.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
