A law firm seeks a General Counsel to join its team in Columbia, SC. The ideal candidate will possess over eight years of experience in mortgage foreclosure and collections, demonstrating a robust understanding of creditor's rights. This role demands a proactive professional who is adept at handling a significant caseload and fostering strong relationships within the legal community.

Duties:

  • Manage a substantial volume of mortgage foreclosure and collections cases within the realm of creditor's rights.
  • Provide legal guidance on discovery practices, depositions, and conflict resolution.
  • Prepare and present cases in court, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and partner.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance the firm's presence in the industry and contribute to its growth.
  • Stay informed on changes in laws and regulations, particularly regarding TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, and the Bankruptcy Code.
  • Demonstrate leadership by mentoring junior attorneys and staff, promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Handle appellate work as necessary and prepare legal documents and briefs.

Requirements:

  • Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina State Bar.
  • Licensed (or capable of obtaining a license promptly) in the SC federal district and bankruptcy courts.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mortgage foreclosure and collections.
  • Proven ability to manage a significant caseload effectively.
  • Familiarity with the South Carolina legal system and various litigation practices.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the South Carolina State Bar is required.
  • Additional Bar licenses are considered a plus.
