Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced and driven Labor & Employment Attorney to join its legal team. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 3 to 5 years of experience in labor and employment law, including both advisory and litigation work. The successful candidate will engage in a diverse range of responsibilities, representing employees and employers in various legal matters, from disputes to compliance. Duties:

  • Employee/Plaintiff Representation:

    • Represent employees in cases related to discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour claims, retaliation, and other employment-related issues.

    • Provide legal counsel to clients on their rights, develop litigation strategies, and manage all stages of the case, including complaints, discovery, and pre-trial motions.

    • Advocate for clients in hearings, trials, and mediations, ensuring strong representation in court and before administrative bodies.

  • Employer Defense and Counsel:

    • Defend employers in employment-related claims such as wrongful termination, harassment, wage violations, and discrimination.

    • Offer guidance on compliance with labor laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, and Title VII.

    • Review workplace policies, employee handbooks, and internal guidelines to minimize risks and ensure compliance.

    • Provide counsel on internal investigations, terminations, performance management, and dispute resolution.

  • Strategic Counsel and Risk Mitigation:

    • Provide proactive advice to employers to avoid legal issues, including in areas like employee discipline, compliance, and personnel decisions.

    • Help clients navigate complex labor and employment challenges while balancing business needs with legal and ethical standards.

  • Litigation Management:

    • Oversee cases from initial intake to resolution, including trial prep, discovery, depositions, and negotiations.

    • Draft and argue motions, and represent clients in hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.

    • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop and execute legal strategies aimed at securing favorable outcomes for clients.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in labor and employment law, with a focus on both advisory and litigation.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and maintain effective communication with stakeholders.

  • Proven experience in representing clients across various industries.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with an interest in business development and practice growth.

  • Active bar admission in Maine.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active and in good standing membership with the Maine State Bar.
