Job Overview:
A renowned law firm is seeking a patent counsel with expertise in electrical engineering to join its growing team. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of experience in patent prosecution, specifically in the areas of 5G, Wi-Fi, wireless technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), processor and memory systems, image processing, and RF front end. Duties:

  • Oversee patent prosecution for a variety of technologies, including 5G, Wi-Fi, AI, image processing, and RF front-end.
  • Develop and manage patent portfolios, ensuring compliance with all relevant intellectual property laws.
  • Communicate with clients to assess and strategize patent filings and other IP matters.
  • Prepare and file patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Advise clients on IP strategy, including patentability, infringement, and litigation risks.
  • Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to support various technology sectors.
  • Lead the drafting and reviewing of legal documents related to patents.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong technical background in electrical engineering or related fields.
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, Wi-Fi, AI, image processing, and RF systems.
  • Registered with the USPTO or qualified to register.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing, or eligible to waive in.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration (or eligible).
  • Admission to the bar, or eligibility for waiver.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to manage complex patent portfolios.
  • Experience liaising with clients and internal teams to advance IP strategies.
  • Expertise in emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, and AI fields like natural language processing and computer vision.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical abilities.
