A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its team in Victorville as a Post-Conviction Relief Attorney. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated legal professional to work in both criminal and immigration law, with opportunities for growth and career development. The Post-Conviction Relief Attorney will manage their caseload, interact directly with clients, and collaborate with the firm’s legal team.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to clients regarding their rights and potential for post-conviction relief, including motions to vacate, expungements, sentence reductions, and early termination of probation.
  • Represent clients at motion hearings and follow up with them post-hearing to discuss strategies and next steps.
  • Assist with handling open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing, in collaboration with other criminal defense attorneys within the firm.
  • Prepare and file motions and legal documents relevant to post-conviction proceedings.
  • Conduct client interviews, manage court appearances, and perform legal research to support case strategies.
  • Analyze the possible outcomes of cases by applying legal precedents and relevant statutes.
  • Manage a diverse caseload efficiently, ensuring all cases are handled promptly.
  • Provide clients with legal analysis to determine potential benefits and risks associated with their cases.
  • Collaborate with other members of the firm, including attorneys and legal assistants, to develop and implement effective legal strategies.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in criminal defense, immigration law, or both.
  • Proven experience handling criminal cases at the state or local level.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently while working collaboratively with other attorneys and staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California or eligibility to obtain membership.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of criminal law, post-conviction relief procedures, and, ideally, immigration law.
  • Ability to draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, and legal analyses.
  • Skilled in legal research, case analysis, and case management.
  • Ability to present and advocate effectively in court.
  • High level of professionalism and dedication to client service.
