Insurance Defense Attorney

A law firm in Lafayette, LA is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney with 8-10 years of experience. The ideal candidate will manage a caseload of insurance defense matters, providing legal counsel from inception through resolution. They will conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and other documents, and represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively are essential for this role.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage a diverse caseload of insurance defense matters, including litigation and coverage disputes.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex insurance issues.
• Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda.
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Provide strategic legal advice and guidance on insurance coverage and defense strategies.
• Collaborate closely with partners, clients, and claims professionals to ensure effective case management and client satisfaction.
• Attend court appearances and depositions as required.
• Maintain organized case files, track deadlines, and ensure timely communication with clients.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Louisiana State Bar in good standing.
• 8-10 years of progressive experience practicing insurance defense law.
• Proven track record of handling complex litigation matters independently.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Experience with insurance coverage disputes and litigation tactics.

Preferred Skills:

• Trial experience in insurance defense cases.
• Familiarity with Louisiana court procedures and rules of civil procedure.
• Experience in alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and arbitration.
• Membership in relevant professional organizations, such as the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
