The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex litigation, including drafting pleadings, taking depositions, and managing discovery. The role also requires some courtroom experience, such as handling routine court appearances, arguing motions, and presenting witnesses. Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and file legal pleadings in complex litigation matters, including motions, briefs, and complaints.
  • Take and defend depositions, ensuring thorough preparation and strategic questioning.
  • Draft affirmative and responsive discovery requests, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Manage discovery processes, including document review, electronic data management, and coordination with expert witnesses.
  • Handle routine court appearances, including arguing motions, presenting witnesses, and participating in hearings.
  • Assist in trial preparation, including drafting trial briefs, witness lists, and exhibits.
  • Conduct legal research on complex litigation issues and draft memoranda and briefs based on findings.
  • Collaborate with partners and other associates to develop case strategies and ensure thorough preparation for trial.
  • Maintain client communication, providing updates on case progress and addressing client inquiries.
  • Manage case files, ensuring accurate documentation and organization of legal records.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-6 years of litigation experience, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and taking depositions.
  • Prior experience with complex filings, electronic data management, and handling routine court appearances is preferred.
  • Courtroom experience: Comfort with making oral arguments, presenting motions, and handling witnesses in court.
  • Illinois Bar admission is required and must be in good standing.
  • Strong academic record and demonstrated skills in legal writing, research, and oral advocacy.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar Admission in Illinois.

Skills:

  • Excellent legal writing and research skills for drafting briefs, motions, and legal memoranda.
  • Strong oral communication skills, with the ability to present arguments effectively in court.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with strong skills in managing complex case files and discovery materials.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to handle multiple complex litigation cases simultaneously.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Proficiency in electronic data management and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with e-discovery tools and document management platforms.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of data in complex cases and ensure compliance with discovery rules.
