Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an experienced estate planning attorney to join its growing practice in Coral Gables, FL. This role requires a deep understanding of complex trust and estate planning matters, with an emphasis on tax and wealth transfer strategies for high-net-worth individuals. The attorney will be responsible for providing sophisticated legal solutions, advising fiduciaries and beneficiaries, and managing trust administration. Duties:

  • Develop strategic estate and gift tax planning structures, including preferred partnerships, family limited partnerships, irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILITs), spousal lifetime access trusts (SLATs), and charitable lead annuity trusts.

  • Draft and oversee corporate transactions related to estate planning, such as tax-free reorganizations and asset protection strategies.

  • Prepare and file Federal Form 706 for estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes, coordinating with CPAs, financial advisors, and insurance providers to ensure compliance.

  • File and review Form 709 for U.S. gift taxes, ensuring accurate reporting of cost basis, lifetime exemptions, and split-gift elections.

  • Provide legal counsel on trust administration, including fiduciary responsibilities, tax implications, and beneficiary rights.

  • Oversee investment, banking, and real estate holdings within trusts to ensure compliance with tax regulations.

  • Produce fiduciary accountings for attorney-trustees, maintaining accurate financial records and reporting to beneficiaries.

  • Review foundational estate plans before client submission, ensuring clarity and alignment with legal and financial objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and asset protection law.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop effective legal solutions for complex estate matters.

  • Proficiency in drafting estate planning documents and structuring wealth transfer plans.

  • Ability to manage multiple clients and legal matters simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for client interactions and professional collaboration.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership with The Florida Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in U.S. estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, and fiduciary responsibilities.

  • Strong knowledge of Florida trust laws and asset protection strategies.

  • Proficiency in legal drafting software such as WealthDocs and client management systems like Clio.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
