Job Overview

A well-regarded law firm based in Washington, D.C. is actively seeking a seasoned Energy Attorney with at least 7 years of experience. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of FERC regulations, including both FERC litigation and settlement, and have experience with energy market practices, specifically ISO/RTO market stakeholder proceedings. This role requires a strong ability to advise clients on energy and capacity market participation, power supply agreements, and related matters. The selected candidate will be expected to manage significant aspects of projects and engage directly with clients while functioning effectively both independently and within a team setting.

Duties

  • Provide expert legal counsel on FERC-related issues, including litigation and settlement matters.
  • Advise clients on energy and capacity market participation, as well as power supply agreements.
  • Participate in and guide stakeholder proceedings in ISO/RTO-regulated energy markets.
  • Take on substantial responsibilities for project management, ensuring the timely and successful delivery of services.
  • Maintain active and collaborative relationships with clients, guiding them on regulatory matters.
  • Prepare clear, concise legal documents, memos, and reports for clients and internal teams.
  • Work with other legal professionals, managing teams where necessary to drive client success.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy law, particularly in FERC practice.
  • Strong background in regulated energy markets and ISO/RTO market proceedings.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal projects and provide client-focused legal services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Ability to function independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues.
  • Comfort with client interaction and leading legal teams on significant projects.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the District of Columbia Bar or eligible for admission.

Certifications

  • Active membership in a State Bar (preferably the District of Columbia).

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of FERC regulations and energy law.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing capabilities.
  • Ability to handle complex litigation and settlement matters in the energy sector.
