A law firm based in Lees Summit, MO is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney to join their growing disability law team. The successful candidate will work remotely within the Appellate Department, focusing on drafting arguments to appeal administrative decisions. The role requires excellent communication skills and minimal direct management, with a preference for candidates with a background in Social Security Disability law or appellate work. An active attorney license through a State Bar association, preferably in MO, KS, or OK, is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft compelling legal arguments and briefs to appeal administrative decisions.
  • Work remotely while managing cases with minimal direct supervision.
  • Utilize expertise in appellate law to review and analyze case records and administrative decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct legal research to support appellate arguments and ensure accuracy in filings.
  • Review and revise appellate briefs to ensure clarity, coherence, and compliance with legal standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Social Security Disability law and appellate procedures.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations based on legal analysis and case reviews.

Requirements:

  • Active attorney license through a State Bar association, preferably in MO, KS, or OK.
  • Experience with Social Security Disability law (preferred).
  • Experience in appellate work, including writing appeals (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and manage caseload with minimal supervision.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant state(s) (MO, KS, or OK preferred).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research and appellate writing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in legal document preparation.
