Job Title: Patent Agent / Technical Advisor

Job Overview:
A reputable law firm in New York City is looking to hire a qualified and driven Patent Agent or Technical Advisor to join its dynamic patent counseling and prosecution team. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong technical background in material, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience in a law firm setting and a deep understanding of various engineering disciplines.

Duties:

• Conduct prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate assessments
• Assist patent attorneys with patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation tasks
• Draft patent applications and responses to office actions
• Analyze patent and scientific literature to provide technical support for patent-related matters
• Collaborate with team members and contribute to patent strategy development
• Stay up-to-date on advancements in technology and patent law

Requirements:

• At least one year of experience in a law firm or a related legal setting
• Strong technical background in chemical engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field
• Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed patent searches and analyze complex technical documents
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to work well in a team and manage multiple projects
• Self-motivated, quick to learn, and proactive
• US Patent Agent registration or eligibility to sit for the USPTO exam

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in material, chemical, mechanical, biomedical engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred

Certifications:

• US Patent Agent registration or eligibility for registration

Skills:

• Strong analytical and technical skills
• Proficiency in patent search tools and databases
• Ability to draft and review patent applications
