Job Overview

A leading law firm is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group specializing in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Biotech technologies. This position is available in multiple office locations, with a preference for candidates in Southeast offices, including Atlanta, GA, Baltimore, MD, and others. The role involves both patent prosecution and litigation support, offering an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovations in the IP field.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech technologies
  • Provide litigation support, including research and analysis of patent infringement issues
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and client consultations on intellectual property strategy
  • Prepare responses to office actions, appeals, and other patent prosecution documents
  • Conduct prior art searches and prepare detailed technical memoranda
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and technical experts to develop and implement intellectual property strategies
  • Ensure compliance with patent laws and regulations

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in patent prosecution and/or litigation
  • Strong experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications
  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field (advanced degrees and/or prior work experience preferred)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are preferred but not required

Certifications

  • Registered Patent Agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills

  • Strong understanding of patent law and prosecution processes
  • Expertise in technical writing and patent documentation
  • Proficiency in patent databases and prior art search tools
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
