Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join its Electrical Engineering & Software Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, including wireless communication, 5G, and 6G technologies. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic team handling both patent prosecution and litigation matters in the electrical engineering and software fields. Candidates will be considered for multiple office locations, with the flexibility to work in any of the firm’s offices.

Location:

  • Casper, WY

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering and software-related fields.
  • Assist with patent litigation, including supporting trial preparation and litigation strategy.
  • Provide legal advice on patent-related matters to clients in various technology sectors.
  • Work on matters related to wireless communication, including 5G, 6G, and 3GPP standards (desired but not required).
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to ensure timely and accurate completion of patent filings and litigation activities.
  • Maintain client relationships and manage portfolios of patents in the electrical engineering and software industries.

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of patent prosecution and litigation experience.
  • Admission to the USPTO (Patent Agent candidates must be registered with the USPTO).
  • Associate candidates must be licensed to practice law or have the ability to become licensed in the state where the work will be performed.
  • Strong background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
  • Design engineering experience with chip companies is a plus.
  • Experience with wireless communication technologies (5G, 6G, 3GPP standards) is desirable but not required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding academic credentials.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field.
  • J.D. for Associate candidates (required for legal practice).
  • Patent Agent candidates must have relevant technical expertise and USPTO registration.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration is required for Patent Agent candidates.
  • For Associate candidates, membership in a state Bar (or ability to gain membership soon) is required.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation in the electrical engineering and software sectors.
  • Knowledge of U.S. patent law and regulations, including USPTO procedures.
  • Experience with patent drafting, office actions, and patent office interviews.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts in writing and orally.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
