A law firm in Cerritos, CA, is seeking a skilled Construction Law Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience handling construction contract claims, both public and private. The candidate will play a crucial role in handling arbitration and trial preparation, mechanic’s liens, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, payment and performance bonds, and other construction-related legal matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cases for arbitration and trial, including participation in arbitration or trial proceedings.
  • Handle mechanic’s liens, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Manage construction claims for contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and assessment of liquidated damages.
  • Apply knowledge of alternate project delivery methods.
  • Conduct depositions of percipient and expert witnesses in construction claims.
  • Draft motions, depositions, and correspondence related to construction litigation issues.
  • Develop and execute discovery plans, including preparing and responding to written discovery.
  • Maintain professional and competent client communication regarding legal and strategic construction litigation issues.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar; additional bar admissions are advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience specifically in construction contract claims, public and private.
  • Experience with arbitration and trial preparation, including participation in proceedings.
  • Knowledge and practical application of mechanic’s liens, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Familiarity with construction claims for contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and liquidated damages.
  • Deposition experience with both percipient and expert witnesses in construction law.
  • Strong writing skills with experience drafting motions, depositions, and legal correspondence.
  • Ability to manage and execute discovery plans effectively.
