A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking a Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of data privacy counseling experience. The role involves leading projects, interfacing directly with clients, and developing and implementing comprehensive compliance programs.

Duties:

  • Lead privacy and cybersecurity projects, maintaining direct communication with clients.
  • Conduct compliance gap assessments and develop comprehensive privacy and cybersecurity compliance programs.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, procedures, and guidance, including data subject request (DSR) procedures, incident response plans, and contracting templates.
  • Develop and implement playbooks, provide advice on data sale/sharing, and targeted advertising.
  • Assist clients in determining priorities, assessing risks, and implementing effective compliance measures.
  • Oversee the development of contracting templates and playbooks, ensuring alignment with client needs.
  • Manage large or complex matters independently or as part of a team, ensuring projects are completed effectively.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in data privacy and cybersecurity counseling.
  • Proven experience with state privacy laws such as CCPA, WA MHMD, and similar regulations.
  • Preferred experience with adtech, cookies/online trackers, and related regulations (e.g., TCPA, CANSPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB self-regulatory rules).
  • Strongly preferred experience in the financial and health/life sciences sectors, including familiarity with GLBA, HIPAA, and FTC/CFPB rules.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice in the jurisdiction (Texas).
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM) preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Self-starter with good judgment and practical risk-based advice capabilities.
  • Collaborative team player who enjoys working in a congenial environment.
  • Proven ability to independently manage and complete complex matters or significant segments of such matters.
