IP Litigation Associate Patent Prosecution & Litigation

A law firm seeks an experienced Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation team, specializing in intellectual property litigation. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge IP cases, providing strategic support in both prosecution and litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IP litigation, including case management and trial experience, and will be based in Greenville, SC.

Duties:

• Independently manage intellectual property litigation matters from pre-trial motions to final resolution.
• Draft and argue motions, manage discovery, and lead depositions.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses to support litigation strategies.
• Oversee and mentor junior associates and paralegals on case tasks and strategy.
• Handle case management, ensuring all deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
• Represent clients in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings and trial settings.
• Develop and implement strategies for complex intellectual property cases.
• Draft key litigation documents, including briefs, motions, and discovery requests.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in intellectual property litigation.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage cases, including briefing, taking depositions, and working with experts.
• Experience with PTAB proceedings or trial litigation is highly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior team members.
• Must be licensed to practice law in South Carolina or be eligible for immediate licensure.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• A technical or engineering degree is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

• Admission to the South Carolina State Bar or eligibility for immediate licensure.
• USPTO admission is preferred but not required.

• Excellent legal writing and communication skills.

• Knowledge of patent law and intellectual property litigation procedures.
