The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing patent strategies, particularly within the life sciences sector. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with legal teams and innovators on cutting-edge technologies, providing strategic guidance and technical expertise across the patent lifecycle.

Duties:

  • Analyze inventions for their potential to qualify for patent protection across diverse scientific domains

  • Draft and prepare detailed U.S. patent applications tailored to innovations in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices

  • Manage prosecution of U.S. patent applications and coordinate global filings with foreign associates

  • Contribute to intellectual property due diligence projects and optimize the management of complex patent portfolios

  • Conduct in-depth legal and technical analysis relating to intellectual property rights and procedures

  • Offer strategic insights in collaboration with attorneys, clients, and technical teams on patent protection approaches

  • Liaise with cross-functional stakeholders, including external counsel, to align business goals with IP strategies

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in patent prosecution, either within a legal practice or corporate IP department

  • Demonstrated focus on innovations in biotechnology, life sciences, medical devices, or related disciplines

  • Strong command of patent drafting and filing processes, with an ability to translate technical subject matter into legal frameworks

  • Familiarity with international IP procedures and working with foreign counsel on global filings

  • Prior exposure to mechanical or electrical patent work is considered advantageous

Education:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a relevant scientific discipline such as molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related field

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (or eligible for the Patent Bar in the near term)

Skills:
