Job Overview:
A growing, innovative law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join their national team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to expand their practice with a dynamic and forward-thinking firm. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of patent prosecution, working closely with patent attorneys and other legal teams to provide comprehensive intellectual property services. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys managing their own practice while having the support of a collaborative team and infrastructure.

Duties:

  • Evaluate invention disclosures and provide feedback to clients
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications
  • Conduct patent landscape studies and analyze third-party patents
  • Collaborate closely with patent attorneys and other legal teams
  • Advise clients on patent strategy and provide strategic counseling
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients regarding patent prosecution matters
  • Manage a caseload independently while utilizing the firm’s infrastructure for support
  • Participate in team-based efforts across various practice groups, including Corporate, Fintech, Intellectual Property, Real Estate, and Litigation

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of patent prosecution experience as a patent agent in a national or regional law firm
  • Admittance to the Patent Bar
  • Strong technical background, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (M.S. or higher preferred)
  • Experience acting as the primary point of contact for clients in patent prosecution matters
  • Ability to work independently and manage a practice, while leveraging team resources for growth and support
  • Interest in contributing to a collaborative and growth-oriented environment

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s or higher preferred)

Certifications:

  • Admittance to the Patent Bar

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of patent prosecution processes and strategy
  • Excellent technical and legal writing skills
  • Ability to conduct patent searches and analyze third-party patents
  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently and effectively
  • Interest in working within a team-focused, distributed work environment
  • Ability to work remotely and manage a flexible schedule
