Associate Attorney - Elder Law

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Cadillac, MI is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in elder law, estate planning, and probate law. The firm is dedicated to serving clients in need of legal assistance with aging-related issues, and the successful candidate will have the chance to work in a client-focused, supportive environment. This position will primarily be based in the Cadillac office with occasional travel to other office locations in the region.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in a variety of elder law matters, including estate planning, probate and trust administration, guardianships, and conservatorships.
  • Conduct client consultations to assess their legal needs and provide expert guidance on aging-related legal issues.
  • Prepare legal documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other related instruments.
  • Represent clients in probate court proceedings.
  • Organize and present public and private educational seminars on elder law topics.
  • Travel to other office locations (Big Rapids, Traverse City, Gaylord) as needed for client meetings or firm events.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on estate planning and/or elder law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and handle a variety of legal matters in the elder law sector.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients.
  • Comfortable working with senior citizens and their families on sensitive and personal legal issues.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet client needs.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan.

Skills:

  • Strong background in estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship matters, and probate and trust administration.
