Civil Litigation Attorney

A personal injury defense law firm in Miami, Florida, is seeking a civil litigation attorney with a minimum of 1 year of experience to join their team. While maritime experience is preferred, it is not required. The successful candidate will manage an active caseload and handle all aspects of case defense from inception through trial or appeal, including arbitration. The attorney will represent clients in both federal and state courts, as well as before arbitration tribunals, working on cases involving vessel owners, cruise lines, cargo interests, and marine insurance underwriters.

Duties:

• Oversee an active caseload, managing case defense from initial investigation through trial or appeal.
• Conduct initial investigations, interview witnesses, and gather evidence.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
• Handle depositions, hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
• Represent clients in federal and state courts as well as before arbitration tribunals.
• Participate in motion practice, trial preparation, and courtroom proceedings.
• Provide legal representation to clients such as vessel owners, cruise lines, concessionaires, cargo interests, and marine insurance underwriters.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of civil litigation experience.
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida (required).
• Strong verbal and writing skills with the ability to draft and defend pleadings and motions in court.
• Experience in federal and state court representation.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and work in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in the State of Florida (required).

Skills:

• Excellent legal writing and drafting skills.
• Strong courtroom presence and oral advocacy abilities.
• Ability to handle all stages of litigation, from investigation to trial and appeal.
• Organizational and case management skills for overseeing a busy caseload.
