Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an associate attorney to support its expanding Energy & Natural Resources practice, with a focus on mineral title matters. This role offers flexible location options, allowing the selected candidate to work from any of the firm’s offices across several states—or potentially work remotely, subject to approval. This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys who want to develop or deepen their expertise in property and mineral title law within the energy sector while working as part of a collaborative legal team that values client service, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving.

Duties:

  • Examine, analyze, and summarize title records, deeds, leases, and related property documents to assess mineral ownership and property rights.
  • Draft customized, comprehensive title opinions and ownership reports for clients in the energy industry.
  • Work directly with clients, land professionals, and other attorneys to identify and cure title defects.
  • Prepare and review curative instruments, including affidavits, amendments, ratifications, and releases.
  • Conduct legal research related to property ownership, mineral rights, regulatory compliance, and relevant state laws.
  • Contribute to due diligence reviews for energy transactions, including acquisitions, sales, and leasing matters.
  • Translate technical legal analysis into clear, actionable guidance for clients.
  • Stay informed of changing laws and regulations impacting mineral title and energy development in key jurisdictions.

Requirements:

  • 0-5 years of legal experience, ideally with exposure to property law, mineral title review, or legal work in the energy sector.
  • Ability to review, understand, and synthesize complex chains of title and ownership history.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Skilled at working independently while also contributing to team efforts and client communications.
  • Strong analytical thinking with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to exceptional client service.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar license in at least one U.S. state.
  • Preference for bar admission in jurisdictions with significant energy development, though this is not required.

Skills:

  • Advanced legal writing and drafting skills, particularly for title opinions and curative documents.
  • Confident verbal communication for engaging with clients, landmen, and legal teams.
  • Proficient in legal research using both traditional and online platforms.
  • Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for clients without legal backgrounds.
  • Comfortable working with remote collaboration tools and technology platforms.

Location:

  • Flexible – open to candidates working from any of the firm’s offices across multiple states, or remotely (subject to approval).

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, and vision).
  • Employer-matched retirement savings plan.
  • Continuing legal education (CLE) support and professional development programs.
  • Flexible work options, including hybrid or remote work arrangements.
  • Collaborative work culture with mentorship and growth opportunities.
