A law firm seeks a motivated and skilled Associate Attorney to join its litigation team in Portland, OR. This full-time, in-person role offers the opportunity to work in insurance defense litigation, with a focus on providing legal counsel, conducting research, managing discovery, and preparing for trials and arbitrations. The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of experience in civil litigation and have a strong foundation in negotiation, legal writing, and problem-solving.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on matters relating to civil litigation, with a focus on insurance defense.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze case law to support litigation strategies.
  • Manage discovery processes, including drafting and reviewing discovery requests and responses.
  • Negotiate settlements and other resolutions for clients in dispute matters.
  • Prepare for and represent clients in trials, arbitrations, and hearings.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and other team members to develop case strategies.
  • Stay informed of changes in laws and regulations relevant to the practice areas.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in civil litigation.
  • Strong proficiency in legal research, writing, and analysis.
  • Proven negotiation skills and experience handling settlement discussions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Oregon State Bar is required.

  • Strong written communication skills, including drafting legal documents such as pleadings and motions.
